"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." - Gal. 6:10 The Scriptures clearly teach that we should be especially focused on meeting the needs of our brothers and sisters in the church.
This was the pattern in the first century (Acts 2:42-47, Gal 6:9-10) and is a great model for us. In these times of economic crisis and hardship, many disciples are facing very serious financial challenges in their personal lives, or in the lives of their immediate families. In addition, as ministers, we are sometimes faced with the very tragic situation of a disciple losing a loved one, or a disciple passing away. There is no one answer on how to handle benevolence or bereavement, but we've tried to gather some materials on those issues for ministers seeking a "starting point" for developing their own congregation's response to these sensitive and painful issues. We welcome your feedback and ideas on this topic, and we hope that what we present here can be a resource for you as you serve the saints.
